British pop legend Paul McCartney has announced the release of his latest solo album, McCartney III. It will be the third album in the classic trilogy, 50 years on from his first self titled album McCartney and 40 years from McCartney II.

Perhaps it was inevitable that the lockdown would be an opportunity for McCartney to focus on his music, however, as the last self-titled album he released was 40 years ago, nobody quite expected him to announce an album which continues such incredible legacy.

Speaking on the new album, McCartney says the record focuses on “freedom and love. There’s a varied lot of feelings on it, but I didn’t set out for it to all be like, ‘This is how I feel at this moment.’ The old themes are there, of love and optimism.” . The album will be unveiled on December 11, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of his first self-titled solo endeavour, and we can’t wait to see how the Beatles continues his unparalleled legacy.
