Single Review: Children of Zeus - No Love Song

A brazenly unapologetic admission of exactly what to expect; ‘No Love Song’ is the latest single from Manchester’s smoothest duo, Children of Zeus.

The track’s velvet-like melodies carry all the slow jam swagger of Manchester-infused neo-soul, a sound that Tyler Daley and Konny Kon have been mastering since they came together as Children of Zeus in 2016. Instant classics such as ‘Still Standing’ earned them status in a city teeming with underground talent, but their debut album ‘Travel Light’ truly put them on the map as one of Manny’s most unique artists.

‘No Love Song’ possesses a distinctly oxymoronic quality. The high-end production from Beat Butcha boasts romanticism, but the lyrics ward off anyone that might want to buy into it. This comes at a time when many musicians hold a degree of scepticism towards their relationship with their artform. A year of restricted social contact and minimal live events has taken its toll on all of us. Konny Kon’s expert delivery as an MC compliments Daley’s melodic intro, proving once again that few artists can balance the light and dark like Children of Zeus.

When asked what were the motivations behind ‘No Love Song’, the duo explained, “the expectations of us to write uplifting, positive songs about love when we aren’t in a place to do so, writing that type of song wouldn’t be truthful.”

It is through this honest approach to their music that Children of Zeus have been able to connect with so many fans, and this latest single is no exception. ‘No Love Song’ is now available to stream on Youtube, Spotify and Apple Music. You can head to the Children of Zeus Bandcamp to pre-order their forthcoming album Balance, available on 4th of June.
