Single Review: Rosellas - Common Ground

Once again, Manchester shows us how talented it can be with up-and-coming indie synth-rock band, Rosellas. Their new single 'Common Ground' follows 'Damaged', which was released earlier this year and quickly clocked up streams on Spotify.

We’ve been trying to find a word to describe this group and the only one that springs to mind is... cool. The boys from Rosellas just make everything sound so effortless, like it's something they knocked up on a hungover Sunday afternoon.

You can detect the distinct North West accent in 'Common Ground' which is really great to hear. These boys have clearly found their sound - a mix of 80s pop and 90s rock with its own millennial edge - and ran with it. They've produced shedloads of music over the lockdowns which makes it all the more sweet to listen to.

You only have to scroll through their social media to see signs of cancelled gigs and bedroom compositions. Their album released in July 2020 was even titled 'Back in the Room' - a hark to the difficult circumstances we all found ourselves in last year.

Another thing that struck me about 'Common Ground' was the accomplished instrument playing that gives them a distinctly mature sound. It won't be long until Rosellas will be playing real gigs again, and with this new cohort of post-lockdown music, we can't wait to see them.
